About Ancestral Footprints

During 25 years of research into the social history of Scotland, the Isle of Man and Cumbria in the 18th and early 19th centuries, Frances Wilkins has identified more than 20,000 people. She recorded details of their lifestyles, whether they were rich or poor, honest or dishonest.

Was one of these people your ancestor?

The remaining books can be purchased directly from this website.

2020: the impact of the coronavirus

2020, VisitScotland's Year of Coasts and Waters, would have seen a series of smuggling exhibitions starting at Annan in April and ending at Dundonald in October. Book launches and smuggling trails were also planned. All this is postponed. The books will be published whenever possible. Plans are underway to convert the smuggling trails to online events.
